Put Your Best Face Forward This Year With Laser Therapy

There’s something about the start of a new decade that makes us take stock. While your accomplishments over the past decade may have been considerable, so, too, have been the forces of aging, robbing your skin of its youth. If you’d like to greet the next 10 years with skin that looks as vibrant and youthful as you feel, our laser therapies are just the ticket.

At Columbus Anti-Aging Medicine and Aesthetic Surgery, under the expert direction of Dr. Gene Meisenberg, we offer a wide range of services that are designed to bring out the best in your appearance. And to accomplish this, we’re equipped with the most state-of-the-art laser equipment available.

Here’s a look at how our laser therapies can help you put your best face forward this year (and decade).

The skin you’re in

In order to better understand how our laser therapies can help dial back the years in your skin, it’s helpful to quickly review the forces we’re up against when it comes to aging tissue.

To start, years of exposure to the sun causes a premature breakdown in the connective fibers in your skin, as well as in your skin cells. This process is called photoaging and it’s one of the leading forces behind fine lines and wrinkles.

Next, the natural loss of collagen and elastin in your skin — the two proteins responsible for the support of your tissue — becomes more evident with each passing year. This loss begins in your 20s and 30s, but only slowly at first at 1% a year. Still, this gradual decline begins to add up by the time you reach your 40s, 50s, and beyond. Compounding matters where women are concerned is the passage through menopause, which causes an abrupt decline in tissue health.

Lastly, your skin begins to lose volume with age as the tissue thins and the youthful fat in your face succumbs to gravity, causing your skin to droop and sag.

The power of light

At our practice, we rely on two laser technologies — intense pulsed light (IPL) and broad band light (BBL). The advantage of both of these systems is that we’re able to target your skin at varying depths so that we can tackle all of the issues that come with aging, such as:

If you want to target a specific issue, we typically turn to BBL, which is slightly more powerful and precise. With this system, we deliver light energy into your tissue, which is absorbed by the melanin in your cells, to break up skin concerns.

If you’d like an overall renewal of your skin, we recommend our laser skin resurfacing. For this incredibly effective technique, we turn to the industry-leading Icon™ laser, which is an IPL system.

Using the Icon laser, we deliver light energy into your skin, which not only breaks up surface concerns, it heats your tissue to the right level for renewed collagen production and cellular renewal. In other words, we encourage your skin to rebuild from the inside out with renewed resources.

The treatments

We perform both laser therapies right in our office and you’re free to get on with your day afterward. Over the weeks following your appointment, your body will slowly process the damaged cells, flushing them out naturally, and new skin will slowly emerge. This skin is not only rebuilt with healthier skin cells, but it also benefits from added support thanks to a boost in collagen production.

Most of our patients realize optimal results in 6-12 weeks. And these results are yours to keep until aging begins to catch up with you again.
